Joyce Byers' house from Stranger Things is now up for sale in real life. The 1980s-set series, which was created by The Duffer Brothers, premiered on Netflix in 2016 and aired season 4 - its penultimate season - in two parts earlier this year. Inspired by retro science fiction and pop culture, including the works of Stephen King, Amblin films, and the lore of Dungeons & Dragons, the show follows various residents of the fictional Hawkins, Indiana as they discover that their town is located over a portal to a dangerous dimension known as the Upside Down, from which various monsters have emerged over the years, including the vicious season 4 villain Vecna.
One of the key adult characters throughout the series is Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder). Byers is the mother of siblings Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Will (Noah Schnapp). The events of season 1 kick off when Will is kidnapped and spirited away into the Upside Down, and his best friends endeavor to solve his disappearance while also finding out the secret of the mysterious telekinetic girl Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), who has found her way into their lives. The Byers household was a central location of season 1, as Joyce discovered that she could string Christmas lights along the wall, where she painted the alphabet, and receive messages from Will in the Upside Down.

A new listing on Zillow reveals that the house that played the Byers residence in Stranger Things is now on the market. The house, which is located at 149 Coastline Rd in Fayetteville, GA, has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and is being sold for $300,000. Although the house exterior was not featured in the most recent season, it is still a key location throughout the series, though the listing warns potential buyers not to "get stuck in the upside down though, this home does need a full rehab." One thing that many viewers don't realize about beloved films and television series is how infrequently their sets' exteriors are used in anything other than stock footage to establish where a scene is taking place. Although the house itself was used as a location quite a bit in Stranger Things season 1, when the action centered on the Byers family, any scenes set inside the house would have been shot on a soundstage rather than on location. The exterior of the house was only included as part of scenes in season 1 episodes 1 and 4 (as well as a few glimpses in seasons 2 and 3), as the rest of its presence was merely implied through Hollywood magic.
In Stranger Things season 4, Joyce and her sons moved to California, removing the Byers house as a necessary location from the series. This may indeed explain why it has gone on the market in the first place. The production no longer needs it, so the owners of the property are seeking a new way to find revenue from the now iconic home.
