Assistance in the form of a facade grant and a TIF Redeveloper Agreement will help freshen the look of a downtown bar and grill.

Cherry Street Brewing Company is proposing to renovate the interior and exterior of its building at 57 S. Cherry St.

Interior improvements include a new microbrew, updated bar area, and new restrooms, along with upgraded dining and gaming areas.

Noticeable improvements to the exterior will include replacement of windows, wood-look siding, and fresh paint. The color scheme will be painted red bricks, green accents on second floor windows, green siding at the first floor and black trimmed windows.

The estimated cost for the interior work is approximately $138,134, while the estimated cost of the exterior work is $78,070.

At its Sept. 6 meeting, the Galesburg City Council approved a $20,720 TIF Agreement for the interior portion of the project.

Cherry Street Brewing Company is seeking $39,035 from the city’s facade grant program to update the exterior of the property. The City Council will vote on the facade grant at its Monday meeting.

If approved, the owners anticipate beginning exterior work as soon as possible and estimate completion by January 2023.

When the project is completed, Cherry Street anticipates retaining 3 full-time jobs and 8 part-time jobs while creating 4 new full-time and 22 new part-time jobs.

A six-person investment group including former owner Kit Wilcox and his son C.C. Wilcox purchased Cherry Street in May.
