In the shadow of the Space Needle sits an iconic pyramid roof. It used to be the location of KeyArena. From the late Supersonics to iconic musical performances like silly punk, everyone here is here. In the past two years, the venue has been refurbished to become the new home of the Seattle Kraken. Although the recognizable pyramid roof (which became a national landmark after being built for the 1962 World's Fair together with the Space Needle) can still be seen, the newly cast climate promises that the bones of the arena are brand new.

Although the transformation has paved the way for a state-of-the-art hockey arena and live event space, the most exciting thing about the venue is what you can’t see. The Climate Pledge Arena is named for its sustainable development efforts to bring the arena into the new century, leading the Climate Pledge Arena to become the first net-zero carbon emission event space in the Northwest region and a pioneer in the sustainability of national events.

In 2019, the prolific trio Massive Attack commissioned a study to use their own tour as a starting point to understand what changes can be made to mitigate the impact of climate change across the industry, thereby increasing people’s lack of awareness in the music industry. Understanding of climate change protection measures. This includes everything about carbon offsets, the use of green energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels, and the use of local materials as much as possible.

This became the first voice of the music industry's supporters of climate change, because the first major figure emphasized the lack of responsibility and legislation in an industry that prides itself on hosting large-scale events in beautiful places around the world.

Although the large-scale attacks have paved the way for discussions on climate change, little progress has been made in adopting the practical outline of their research. so far.

The Climate Promise Arena is a pioneering venue in many ways. But beyond that, this is the first step towards mitigating climate change on a large scale. These efforts will continue to permeate PNW's music activities.

Below are some of the major climate change efforts that the arena will focus on.

Zero carbon: The daily operation of the arena will consume zero fossil fuels. This includes heating, cooling, cooking and other machines.

All their power has been converted into electricity. In addition, solar panels are installed throughout the iconic roof, offsetting the renewable energy plant that will collect the remaining energy needed to maintain the arena. In addition to net zero carbon emissions, they will also buy carbon offsets for things beyond their control, such as transportation, to ensure that even if carbon emissions cannot be avoided, at least they will still deliver on their promises.

Zero-use single plastic: When Washington became the leader in ending statewide consumption of single-use plastics, anyone at PNW was familiar with this concept. Disposable plastic is almost never recycled and will eventually be thrown into landfills, where it will not biodegrade, but will infiltrate its chemical structure into the surrounding environment and slowly cause pollution. CPA is the first field to eliminate single-use plastics and is "committed to achieving 100% no single-use plastics by 2024."

Water saving: A series of water collection tanks are installed on the roof. As a geographical area with an average of 198 days of rainfall per year, this is of course no doubt.

Water scarcity is a huge climate change problem, because climate change may be related to rising temperatures that cause droughts and dry waterways. In addition, all bathrooms in the arena are equipped with water-free water tanks and water-saving showers. Water conservation brings wastewater problems, which is a huge source of marine pollution. CPA installed water tanks to collect water runoff from the facility and then recirculate the water for use in the arena.

Zero waste: Finally, the correct removal and disposal of waste means that the garbage and hazardous materials collected in the environment will be reduced. These materials can cause many different climate problems, including pollution. CPA has a special system to correctly classify waste in the arena and uses composting practices in all their food stalls. In addition, it will be equipped with state-of-the-art trash bins for public use, including trash bins, recycling bins and compost bins.

It is an exciting prospect to see all these bells and whistles in such a new facility. What's more exciting is that CPA will become the leader of green music competitions. We are all excited to hear that the Swedish House Mafia will come to the venue during the reunion tour in 2022. This show becomes even more important because it will be the country's first large-scale EDM event. Completely net zero space.

If you were hesitant before (by the way, this is totally crazy and you should definitely go), then these climate initiatives have more reasons to go, because if these efforts are to be realized, they need to be supported in the industry and adopted across the country. . Today the climate promises the arena, and tomorrow the Madison Square Garden.

The issue of climate change surrounds all of us, and we are fortunate to live in a country that truly understands these issues and is making great strides to alleviate them. Although we have our own influence through small actions every day, the state and private investment groups are making these changes more influential. Every time we watch Kraken at home or go out to support the Swedish Mafia, we are supporting the climate change initiative, which is honestly cool!
